America’s Cup Class catamarans racing for the first time! Watch the pre-start between Oracle’s Jimmy Spithill and Land Rover BAR’s Ben Ainslie. With port tack entry, Oracle is allowed to enter the starting box 10 seconds ahead of starboard tack, right of way Land Rover BAR. But they are late and cannot cross in front of BAR. Both boats go into a dial up.
Wow, almost like a traditional yacht match race!
I don’t think we’re in Kansas any more, Ron. This will be a race of speed and boat handling, not match racing skills. IMHO, of course.
Thanks Jack
That was really cool
Thanks for keeping us in the action Jack!
My pleasure, Kimberly. I’m sure I have more fun researching this stuff than my readers have when they read it. 🙂
Jack,
Why do these boats trim down by the bow?
Thanks,
Tim
It’s partly to get the windward rudder out of the water and reduce drag, but that is a secondary benefit. I will get a more complete explanation and publish it.
Fantastic. These things never stop impressing me
Hi Mike, they impress me too! Pretty astonishing machines, and very difficult to sail well!
