New Zealand and Artemis Racing advanced to the America's Cup challenger selection finals after four days of intense racing. Two days were lost to the weather: no wind on Sunday 4 June and too much wind on Wednesday 7 June. New Zealand survived a pitchpole on Tuesday at the start of Race 4. With the wind over 20 knots on Tuesday, all the boats sustained damage.

High winds on the second day of racing tested the sailors and the boats to the limit and beyond. The Kiwis pitchpoled at the start of the second race of the day. Fortunately there were no injuries and they were able to repair their boat. Pieces of the lightweight fairings on both Team Japan and Artemis flew off the boats in the high winds.
